Tesla could launch the Destination Charging program in Europe as soon as next month

Tesla first announced the upcoming introduction of its Destination Charging network in Europe almost 6 months ago. At the time, Tesla said that the network was “coming soon“, but the automaker’s charger map is still showing no destination charger in Europe.

Now we received reports of hotels in Europe, especially Denmark, Sweden and Norway, where Tesla Wall Connectors have been installed or delivered. We hear that the program could launch as soon as next month with new locations.

Tesla operates two kinds of charging networks: the Superchargers, a network of DC fast charging stations for long distance driving, and the Destination Charging network; level 2 chargers installed at restaurants and hotels to charge once you arrived at your destination, hence the name.

Destination Charging locations use the Tesla Wall Connector, a $750 home charging station, which, when paired with a Model S equipped with dual chargers, can charge the car at a rate of 58 miles of range per hour.

Here’s the current map of Tesla’s Destination Charging locations vs Supercharger locations in North America:

Under the Destination Charging program, Tesla offers the first 2 chargers for free or heavily discounted as long as they are installed in a “visible or convenient location”.  Hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and resorts participating in the program have to cover the electricity cost and Tesla includes the businesses in its available charging locations in its trip planner.

Tesla also recently updated its website to include instruction manuals and installation videos for its Tesla Wall Connector in more languages and with the European standard connector.
